When leaders dedicated to health care access look for ways to make a difference, they often turn to community health centers. Earlier this year, Magda Schaler-Haynes, JD, MPH, and George Coutros joined the Zufall Health Board of Directors and the Zufall Health Foundation Board of Trustees, respectively.

Schaler-Haynes is a Professor of Health Policy and Management at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health. Though she now works in New York, she spent years shaping New Jersey health policy as Senior Advisor in the Attorney General’s Office and Director of Policy at the New Jersey Department of Health. She first encountered Zufall during her public service career and became an advocate for the organization.

“When people refer to a right to health care, they typically have no idea how or where that right comes to life in the U.S.,” said Schaler-Haynes. “Our nation’s community health centers make good on that promise every day, and no one does it better than Zufall.”

As a Board member, she plans to champion greater investment in community health centers and leverage her health policy expertise to expand Zufall’s services.

Coutros brings more than three decades of health care industry experience to the Zufall Health Foundation Board of Trustees. As Lead for State Government Relations at Sanofi, he works with state policymakers to improve access to innovative treatments for patients. His career includes prior executive leadership roles at Sanofi and Schering-Plough (now Merck).

Coutros was introduced to the Foundation through Diana Blankman Roberts, who helped lead Sanofi’s support for Zufall’s Morristown facility in 2025 when the company opened its new U.S. corporate headquarters nearby. As a trustee, Coutros hopes to raise awareness of Zufall’s mission among corporate supporters while sharing his expertise in public policy and government relations.

“Health centers like Zufall are among the most trusted members of the community,” Coutros said. “Because of that trust, they should be given more support to serve their patients to the fullest.”
