Your Vision Is Precious: Simple Ways to Keep Your Eyes Healthy

This year, expanding vision services is a primary fundraising focus at Zufall Health. Currently, these services are available in only one location and with one provider.
While we work to bring these essential services to more patients, we encourage you to protect your own vision. Here are some simple tips from our providers to keep your eyes healthy:
- Get regular eye screenings and keep your glasses or contact lens prescription up to date.
- Wear sunglasses that block 99 to 100 percent of UVA and UVB radiation, which can damage your eyes.
- Take breaks from screens every 20 minutes to prevent eyestrain and headaches.
- Eat fruits, dark leafy greens, and fish high in omega-3 fatty acids. These foods provide nutrients that support eye structure, reduce inflammation, and help prevent degenerative eye diseases.
- Know your family’s eye health history to determine if you’re at higher risk for developing an eye disease or condition.
- Maintain healthy blood sugar levels, especially if you have diabetes. 90% of blindness caused by diabetes is preventable!
- Use protective eyewear at work, during repairs, or while playing sports.
