Why is the COVID Vaccine Important for My Young Child?

The vaccine reduces the risk of infection for your baby or young child. If infection does occur, the vaccine protects your baby or child from severe disease, hospitalization, or death from a COVID infection. It also reduces their transmission of the virus to their parent or guardian, other family member, or friend.

With the vaccine, you can feel better about your baby or young child going to school, daycare, playdates, and other group activities.

Is the Vaccine Safe for My Child?

Yes. These safe and effective vaccines were carefully studied BEFORE being recommended for children and adults. None of the clinical trial steps were skipped and no corners were cut when it comes to safety. Learn more about vaccine safety. En Español.

My Child Already Had COVID. Do They Still Need to be Vaccinated?

Yes! The vaccine will provide your child with extra protection as their protection from infection wanes. For children who have been infected, their next dose can be delayed 3 months from when symptoms started or, if they did not have symptoms, when they received a positive test.

What Side Effects Can I Expect?

Side effects are mild for children ages 6 months to 11 years. Both the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines have similar side effects, including pain at the injection site, irritability, drowsiness, headache, and fever. These symptoms usually go away in 24 to 48 hours. Learn more about side effects here.
