Celebrating 30+1 Years of Healthcare Excellence

Zufall Health energized and entertained more than 100 supporters at our “30+1” Anniversary Gala on Friday, October 8 at Brooklake Country Club. The celebration of more than three decades of healthcare excellence honored Direct Relief, a global humanitarian organization that provides medical and emergency relief to victims of poverty and natural disasters.

“I’ve visited nearly a thousand health centers during my tenure … and Zufall is at the top of the top in all things that matter,” Tighe said. “The best case for private philanthropy today in the United States are community health centers broadly, and Zufall in particular.”

“Direct Relief’s steadfast commitment to community health centers like ours is making an enormous impact on reducing health disparities and improving access to care for millions of medically underserved patients worldwide,” Zufall President and Chief Executive Officer Eva Turbiner told the celebrants.

In recognition of Direct Relief’s outstanding service to Zufall, Eva Turbiner presented Thomas Tighe with “Share and Share Alike,” a painting by Denville, NJ artist Laurie Harden.

Guests also enjoyed the soothing sounds of a jazz quartet on an outdoor, covered veranda. The band set the mood for a safe evening of cocktails and dinner with ample space for social distancing. The celebration was originally slated for Zufall’s 30th birthday in October 2020. With COVID-19 infection rates rapidly spiking in New Jersey and vaccines still unavailable, the gala was pragmatically postponed to this year, hence the “+1” addition to the event name.

Turbiner posthumously awarded Board of Directors Chairman Emeritus, Paul Nusbaum, the Founder’s Award. His benevolent spirit will be deeply missed and, in his memory, Zufall has created the Paul Nusbaum Memorial Fund.

Turbiner also posthumously awarded Board of Directors Chairman Emeritus, Paul Nusbaum, the Founder’s Award. Nusbaum’s legacy extends beyond his successful 65-year legal career as a founding principal of the Nusbaum Stein law firm; he also took great joy in applying his legal talents to Zufall’s finances, acquisitions, and operations. His benevolent spirit will be deeply missed and, in his memory, Zufall has created the Paul Nusbaum Memorial Fund. Donations can be made to honor him zufallhealthfoundation.org/donate or by check made out to Zufall Health Foundation and mailed to Shade Cronan, Foundation Director, at 18 West Blackwell Street Dover, NJ 07801.
