Building a Brighter Future for Angelo: Brittany’s Story

When her son Angelo was diagnosed with autism following a referral from his Zufall Health pediatrician, Brittany was overwhelmed. While the clarity of a diagnosis provided relief, it also brought a flood of self-doubt and an extensive list of new responsibilities. Brittany found herself navigating changes in insurance coverage, searching for specialized therapy, and even looking for a new apartment better suited to Angelo’s needs—all while grappling with guilt and questioning herself as a mother.
Because the diagnosis qualified the family for Zufall Health’s HealthySteps program—which guides families through developmental and behavioral concerns for children ages 0–5—Brittany was connected with Licensed Associate Counselor and HealthySteps Specialist Lesly Tinoco, LAC. Lesly’s guidance gave Brittany the strength to keep moving forward during what she calls “one of the most difficulty and disorienting” times of her life.
Today, Brittany is able to reflect on how far they’ve both come. She says: “Now, I can take in the happy moments, like seeing signs of how far he has come…I still have days when I struggle, trying to juggle being an advocate, a coach, and a mom without losing myself,” Brittany says. “Knowing that I have Lesly in my corner helps me keep going. It helps me stay firm in my belief that his future is bright.”
